History
St-Luc constituted a strategic step for the first mountaineers who, around 1850, explored the high peaks of Anniviers. As its reputation kept growing with the valley, the first hotel in St-Luc opened in the village center in 1860. The hotel was named after the most beautiful peak in the valley: Bella-Tola. In the late nineteenth century, the advantageous situation of the village and simple, frank and cordial hospitality received by the traveler, after the fatigue and excitement of the climb, attracted a new stream of visitors who, at the outset, felt almost like home as they were at ease there. From 1930, the first winter sports and tourism development that followed, contributed to the development and reputation of St-Luc.
